I have had a few people ask me which are the best free line rental deals?
I am afraid I have no answer to that as it really depends what you want.
What you really need to find is the best deal for you!
If you are asking who the best companies are, then look at e2save or mobiles2yourdoor, they seem to have a reasonable reputation and have been in business for a while.
When looking for a really good deal you really need to start with your own requirements. Think how many minutes you need, how fussy you are about the kind of handset you want, how many (if any) inclusive texts do you require?
When you have the answers to those questions, shop around and see what you can get on a conventional deal (i.e. one that does not offer cash back). What you should find is that these deals will offer a better handset, however, you do not need to worry about that, all you need to look at is the monthly cost.
Only when you have found the conventional deal with the lowest monthly cost should you shop around for one with a free line rental option.
You need to make sure that the actual monthly cost of the package does not exceed the monthly cost of the conventional deal. Remember, the retailers will invariably giving you an inferior handset on a free line rental deals, and the money saved on that handset should cover the risks associated with the deal from the retailers perspective.
If they charge you more per month, as well as giving you an inferior handset, then, in a sense you are paying twice.
Assuming you can get the free line rental option for the same price as a conventional contract, all you are effectively doing is trading the difference (in cost) between the cheaper handset (on the FLR option) and the more expensive handset on the conventional contract. You could consider this your “gamble” on the FLR deal.
Now, if you fail to make a successful cash-back claim on your FLR deal, all you have lost is the benefit of a more advanced handset. It will not actually have cost you any more per month, i.e. you will not have spent any more on the deal.
Conversely, if you spend more than you otherwise could on a FLR, you stand to lose not only the difference in the cost of the phone, but you will also have spent more on the contract, not a smart move!
